MINISTRY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE CUTS SOD FOR ANUNUSO WATER CONSERVATION SCHEME AT BROFOYEDU

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has cut sod for the commencement of the Anunuso Water Conservation Scheme (AWCS) at Brofoyedu, near Asokore in the Sekyere East District.

The ceremony forms part of the West Africa Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP) – LOT 1, for the Development of Selected Inland Valleys in the Ashanti Region.

The programme held on Friday, 2nd October, 2026 brought together traditional authorities, farmers, and officials from the Ministry and the District Assembly.

The Asokore Traditional Council opened the programme with a prayer and later delivered a statement in support of the project. The District Chief Executive for Sekyere East, Hon. Ibrahim Adams, delivered the welcome address, while the Project Coordinator for FSRP, Mr. Nathaniel Adams and the Regional Director of Agriculture for Ashanti, Dr. David Anambam, gave remarks on the importance of the scheme.

The Brofoyedu Farmers Cooperative, beneficiaries of the project, also expressed appreciation for the intervention which is expected to improve dry-season farming and boost food security.

The highlight of the ceremony was the Keynote Address by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, followed by the official Sod Cutting and Site Possession for the inland valley development, together with selected officials and traditional leaders.

The Director of Agriculture for Sekyere East, Mr. Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, gave the vote of thanks.

The Anunuso scheme, when completed, is expected to provide sustainable water conservation for all-year-round farming for farmers in Brofoyedu and surrounding communities.
