The Sekyere East District Assembly led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon Ibrahim Adams in collaboration with the various institutions, organizations and schools within the District.
The Monthly General Clean Up Exercise was targeted at clearing garbage-filled channels and drains, choked gutters, waterways, Principal Streets, Lorry Parks, Market places, Workplaces and other public places.
The Monthly Clean Up Exercise is in line with the Government’s National Sanitation Day Programme instituted by the President of the Republic H.E John Dramani Mahama to be carried out by all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). The main objective is to get rid of filth and keep the cities and environment clean and safe from diseases and enhance the health and wellbeing of the people.
The District Chief Executive Hon Ibrahim Adams underscored the importance of the Government’s National Sanitation Day Programme instituted by the President of the Republic to promote and protect our health and wellbeing. The DCE, who participated in the Exercise, called on all to support the initiative for healthy living. He called for support and continuous commitment towards the Clean Up Exercise to make Sekyere East a better place. The DCE emphasized concerted efforts to improve Sanitation and cautioned the public from littering and throwing rubbish around indiscriminately.
The District Environmental Health Analyst (DEHA) Madam Mercy Adams led the team of Environmental Health Officers to specific areas and assigned groups to various demarcated and allocated places to work.
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Equipment/Machines were deployed to collect the refuse heaps to the final diposal sites. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Tender and Team of personnel took charge to flash choked gutters and drains.
Directives: To ensure effective and all inclusive participation, the Assembly initiated the following directives during the Exercise; All Shops, Stores, Containers were closed. All commercial and economic activities remained closed until end of Exercise except emergency services such as Hospitals/Clinics, Health Centres, Laboratories, Health workers, Nurses, Doctors on duty, Pharmacies, Drug Stores (Over the Counter), Fuel Stations were exempted but must clean their workplaces and homes. Food vendors were disallowed from selling, Vehicles, Tricycles (Pragyia and Motor King) and other Transport Operators, were also disallowed from operating until the end of the Exercise.
